Home Up Why get Rated Casino Vocabulary

Getting Rated by the casino is extremely important to you the player

It allows for the casino to determine the gaming (Comp) value of you the patron as well as a method to determine casino upfront comps and subsidies to be extended on your upcoming visit.

Please note that all upfront comps have to be covered by your play before they can extend additional complimentaries.

How do they determine comp value ?????

Everyone must use a Slot and Table Rating card given to them at the time of arrival when traveling on an aircraft, car or bus. If for some reason they are not given to you upon arrival we ask that you kindly visit the Slot and Table game center where they will create your account number and issue you at least two cards per person.

This card will determine your gaming activity.

When using the slot and table games rating cards the casinos use a rating formula that factors into it a players average bet, time played, house % advantage of the game played, players skill level, number of decisions (win or loss) per hour and betting methods to determine game theoretical. Based on this theoretical the house determines the level of comps to be extended to you.

Avg Bet: This is your most frequent bet (Let's say $50.00 is your most frequent bet). Please note that when you escalate your bet based on your style the moment you lose that highest bet and go back to your original bet ($50.00) then you are a $50.00 avg bettor. Most systems (styles) call for raising bets based on winning however, it normally takes at least (3)Three bets to determine the beginning avg bet. Once determined the floor person will determine your style of play and then determine your most frequent bet (Avg Bet). The exception is craps players - playing the pass line and whether they make flat bets or come bets - playing odds making prop bets and playing the field. Much to consider and when determining the avg bet that should be left between you and the floor person as they can first hand give you a more accurate determination. Please note that most casinos do not consider odds in determining avg bets however, for those that do the game theoretical is adjusted accordingly to determine comp value.

Time played: It is in your best interest to present your player card each and ever time you begin play at a table or when you move to a new table. Never assume the floor person has you kindly give him/ her your slot and table rating card and when leaving a table it would be helpful that you ask them How much time you have been playing ??? avg bet ???? should there be a discrepancy correct it immediately with them and if you do not receive satisfaction call for the Pit Boss for an explanation and assistance to correctly have you rated prior to leaving the table game. Please note that should you not play every hand they may lower your time ??? Let them explain that to you at that moment !!!!

House Advantage (What they anticipate to win): Every game on the floor has a house advantage. An example: a $50.00 avg 3 card stud player has a lesser house advantage then a $10.00 field bettor in craps. To fully get a truer understanding you should research table games advantages via gaming books or sites on the Internet. Please note that you should get rated at all times and never change your style of play. Play within your limits and have fun.

Skill Level:  A player has very little control on this part of the equation, as it is solely determined by the Floor person watching the game. Based on their interpretation of your play - in Black jack should you play basic strategy versus one who might play a little more aggressive and in craps a Don't Player versus a Field bettor ??

Decisions per hour: Every game has it's expected amount of decisions per hour. So note that should you play head to head ( you would play all the decisions) versus a player at a full table playing the same avg bet you would have a higher allowance for game decisions then the person at the full game.

Betting Methods: Many player's have one form or another of playing styles. From playing basic strategy to playing aggressive. This portion of the rating again is determined by the floor person.

Based on all these factors we have a theoretical and now comes the determination of comps. Every casino has a percentage that they are willing to use to determine comps. This number is determined by the Executive Casino Management and can change from time to time.

An old time rule of thumb was:

Avg bet $100.00 x the time 10 hrs = 1000 Theo x casino comp % (28%) = 280 comp value to the customer. This has been adjusted with Skill level/Dec per hr and betting Methods which can change the Comp value one way or the other.

When playing slots the computer automatically records your activity however, should you not play for 3 to 5 minutes the card is rejected and you have to resubmit your card. Therefore, when playing slots it is important that you check your card from time to time to make sure the machine says accepted or is calulating your point totals.

However, it should be noted that getting rated not only allows you the opportunity to receive comps. It also allows you to receive promo giveaways, promo room specials, and subsidized airfare on air charter programs.
